On May 4, 2006
the Suffolk Community Council presented its 2006 Long
Island Man of the Year, Long Island Woman of the Year
and Long Island Advocate of the Year awards. The
Celebrating Connections event took place at Flowerfield
in St. James.
The Long Island
Man of the Year award was presented to Dr. Aldustus
Jordan, Associate Dean for Student and Minority Affairs
at the Stony Brook University School of Medicine and
a Clinical Associate Professor at the Stony Brook School
of Social Welfare. The Long Island
Woman of the Year Award was presented to Sandra Feinberg,
Director of the Middle Country Public Library.
The awards are given each year to individuals who have
demonstrated a life-long commitment to promoting the
Suffolk Community Council's mission of improving the
quality of life for residents of Suffolk County while
fostering self-determination and empowerment.
This year's
recipient of the Long Island Advocate of the Year award
was Ms. Mattie Angus, Parent & Volunteer Resource
Coordinator at LI Head Start. The award is presented
